The aircraft is reported to have crashed at 11.01 am on Tuesday on a ground north of Heathfield, authorities confirmed the pilot has died in the incident.

Pilot lost his life in a plane crash in Heathfield

Emergency services were called today after a light aircraft came down in the morning.

The plane crashed to the open ground, bursting into flames. The firefighters extinguished the fire, but the pilot has reportedly lost his life in the accident. The plane came down near the village of Cross in Hand, north Heathfield, in East Sussex.

At the moment, there is no information on whether any other person has been injured in the accident. The Air Accidents Investigation Branch is currently conducting an investigation. Fire crews were called immediately from multiple stations and extinguished the fire.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service affirmed no further information is yet available, but fire crews have extinguished the blaze at the scene which is a field off Herring Lane, reportedly near a flying school.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police declared: “Emergency services are responding to a light plane that has crashed at Herring Lane, north of Heathfield. “The aircraft was reported to have come down on open ground at 11.01 am on Tuesday, August 4. There are no further details at present.”

South East Coast Ambulance Service also provided an update on social media just before 1 pm. They wrote: “Crews are currently on the scene, alongside Fire and Police, to a light aircraft crash in Cross-in-Hand, near Heathfield.

“We were called at about 11 am and sent a number of resources. We have no further update at this stage.”
