Nicola Sturgeon reimposed lockdown
Nicola Sturgeon re-imposed lockdown restrictions on Aberdeen, after a further coronavirus outbreak took place leading to 54 new positive cases.
While Covid cases continue to grow worldwide, Nicola Sturgeon declared she is re-imposing lockdown restrictions on Aberdeen. This is after 54 people were found positive to coronavirus in a new cluster linked to the Hawthorn bar. According to the First Minister at least 20 other venues are involved in the cluster.
The First Minister confirmed all indoor and outdoor hospitality venues will have to shut today at 5 pm. She also said lockdown could be extended into Aberdeenshire depending on the results of contact tracing after the outbreak.
First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon affirmed: “ The obvious linkages and intertwining of Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire was one of the issues we discussed this morning”.
“Right now, the restrictions that we are announcing apply to Aberdeen city, and I want to be clear about that”.
“But there will be ongoing analysis of the Test and Protect data to see whether it may be necessary to extend these restrictions to some parts of Aberdeenshire”.
At the moment of the briefing, 191 people had been traced in relation to the cluster. All pub, bars, restaurants and hospitality venues will be closed from 5 pm today. The restrictions will then be reviewed next week. People are also being asked not to travel to Aberdeen. The First Minister confirmed Scotland was taking this tough precautionary approach to have immediate results and in order to ensure schools reopened on schedule.
