The city of Mestre is set to become a vibrant center of intellectual exchange as it hosts the Festival della Politica from September 9 to 13, 2026. This annual event, organized by the Fondazione Gianni Pellicani brings together a diverse array of thinkers, including scholars, journalists, philosophers, and writers, to explore the most pressing issues of our time through the lens of hope.
The festival, held in partnership with the Fondazione di VeneziaM9Comune di Venezia and the Camera di Commercio with the patronage of the Regione Veneto aims to foster meaningful dialogue in a world grappling with unprecedented challenges. The event features approximately 100 guests, including notable figures such as Matteo Maria ZuppiVincenzo PagliaMassimo Cacciari and Vera Gheno.
Themes and Highlights of the Festival
The festival kicks off on Wednesday, September 9, at 17:30 with an inaugural event in the chiostro M9. Vera Gheno a renowned socio-linguist and researcher, will lead a discussion titled “The New Lexicon of Hope” alongside curator Sara Sanzi.
Following this, the theme of work will be explored by sociologist Francesca Coin and radio host Sara Zambotti.
Throughout the festival, attendees can engage in a variety of sessions that delve into topics such as global instability, economic crises, social conflicts, and technological revolutions. The director of the festival, Nicola Pellicani emphasizes the importance of exploring hope as a means to navigate these complex issues. “In a season marked by crisis, we seek to understand the reasons for hope through debate and deep reflection,” Pellicani notes.

One of the standout events will take place on Friday, September 11, at 16:30, honoring the late Enzo Bianchi founder of the Comunità monastica di Bose. The session will feature a dialogue between Antonio Gnoli and Paolo Bettiolo with an intervention by Massimo Cacciari.
Alberto Trentini an humanitarian operator who was detained in Venezuela from 2024 to 2026, will share his experiences on Saturday, September 12, at 11:30. His dialogue with Nicola Pellicani and Beppe Giulietti promises to be a powerful testament to resilience and hope.
The festival also features prominent religious figures, including Cardinal Matteo Maria Zuppi president of the Conferenza Episcopale Italiana and Monsignor Vincenzo Paglia president emeritus of the Pontificia Accademia per la Vita. Zuppi will engage in a philosophical discussion with Massimo Cacciari on Thursday, September 10, at 20:30, while Paglia will present his latest book in a dialogue with Pietro Del Soldà on Sunday, September 13, at 19:30.
