Organic gardens for Michelle Obama's visit to Rome

The US first lady Michelle Obama will inaugurate a new organic garden in Rome as part of a move to promote organic food and sustainable food economy in the Italian capital.
The popularity of having your own veggie patch is increasing in Italy, particularly among young people, and you can find fruit and vegetables growing on even the smallest of balconies these days.

Rome is giving over some of its public spaces to be cultivated by its citizens and a new organic garden will be opened at the Campidoglio and another, larger one, opened under the Marcus Aurelius statue.
It will also have an artistic side, following the star of Michelangelo paving in that area.

This particular garden has been created thanks to an agreement with Slow Food Roma and will be opened between October 21 and 25 by none other than Michelle Obama.
The US first lady is famous for her own ‘home grown’ values and has created her own organic garden in the grounds of the White House.
