The Scottish capital is gearing up for an extraordinary New Year’s celebration as Underworld the iconic dance duo, is set to headline Edinburgh‘s Hogmanay In The Gardens this December. This marks their first appearance at the renowned event, promising an electrifying start to 2027.

For three decades, Underworld’s 1996 hit Born Slippy (Nuxx) has been indelibly linked to Edinburgh, thanks to its prominent feature in the film adaptation of Irvine Welsh’s Trainspotting. This December, the duo will bring their legendary sound to Princes Street Gardens, creating a memorable experience for all attendees.

Underworld’s Exclusive Scottish Performance

Members Rick Smith and Karl Hyde expressed their excitement about this unique event, stating, “We’ve celebrated New Years all around the world. But Hogmanay with the Scots is always exceptional.” They added, “We only hope we can give some of that special back to the Scottish people and celebrate the only way we know how.

Edinburgh, Let’s Dance.”

This performance will also mark a first for Edinburgh’s Hogmanay organizers, as Underworld will lead a special Midnight Moment in West Princes Street Gardens. This moment will see the duo soundtrack the welcome to 2027, accompanied by the world-famous fireworks from Edinburgh Castle.

The Return of the Famous Street Party

Edinburgh’s Hogmanay will also see the return of the famous Street Party on Princes Street, with tens of thousands of New Year’s revellers expected to participate in this year’s celebrations. The event promises a blend of spectacular fireworks, stunning light installations, and projections, creating an extraordinary experience for all attendees.

Councillor Margaret Graham culture and communities convener, shared her enthusiasm, saying, “Edinburgh truly is the place to bring in the bells, and there’s no better home for Hogmanay than our capital city. We’re delighted to be welcoming Underworld to Edinburgh for what promises to be a very special headline performance.”

She continued, “It’s especially exciting that our world-famous Midnight Moment will be accompanied by such an iconic soundtrack, adding even more magic to the occasion. Combined with our spectacular fireworks, stunning light installations and projections, this year’s celebrations are shaping up to be an extraordinary experience and one not to be missed.”

A Night to Remember

Directors at Unique Assembly which produces Edinburgh’s Hogmanay, shared their excitement about the upcoming event. They stated, “We’re thrilled to welcome Underworld as 2026’s Hogmanay in the Gardens headliners for what is set to be an incredible night of music to dance our way into 2027.”

They added, “In a summer when Scotland has once again shown the world how to party, we can’t wait to ring in the New Year with friends from around the world at the Home of Hogmanay. Underworld have soundtracked 30 years of iconic Scottish moments and to experience ‘Born Slippy (Nuxx)’ live in the heart of Edinburgh is going to be an unforgettable moment for everyone.”

The world-famous Midnight Moment, soundtracked by legends of the dance world, will ensure revellers kick off 2027 with the ultimate party beneath Edinburgh Castle. As the saying goes, “No Scotland, No Party!”

Fans who want to secure their tickets early can sign up for pre-sale access, available 24 hours ahead of the general sale at 10am on Thursday, June 25, on the Edinburgh’s Hogmanay website.
