British households that have invested in rooftop panels now have a new option to keep more of that sunshine for later use. EcoFlow has rolled out its STREAM 5000 home battery in the United Kingdom, targeting owners who want a simple yet powerful way to store solar electricity without the complexity of large-scale systems.
The device is positioned as a bridge between a modest solar array and the everyday appetite of a family home. It captures excess daylight generation, holds it in a battery, and releases the power when the sun sets, giving users control over when they draw from the grid.
Compact design and impressive performance
Despite its name, the STREAM 5000 is remarkably portable. Weighing just 45 kg and roughly the dimensions of a cabin-size suitcase, EcoFlow claims the unit is up to 40% smaller than comparable home-storage products, allowing it to fit comfortably in garages, utility rooms or even closets.

On the output side, the system can deliver a continuous 3 000 W of AC power, enough to run major appliances such as washing machines, tumble dryers or dishwashers. On the input side, four MPPT chargers accept up to 5 000 W of solar power, enabling rapid charging on sunny days. The combination of high input capacity and solid output makes the unit practical for everyday household demand.
Scalable storage and future-proof features
One of the headline attractions is flexibility. Homeowners may start with a single 5 kWh module and later add additional units through the EcoFlow STREAM Gateway creating a larger storage array capable of supporting electric-vehicle chargers or heat-pump systems. Expansion, however, must respect local installation standards and grid-connection rules.
Installation is handled by a certified electrician, ensuring that the system complies with safety regulations. The battery is rated with IP65 protection, offering resistance to dust and water ingress, and incorporates multi-layer safety mechanisms. Its advertised lifespan reaches 15 years with up to 10 000 charging cycles backed by a 10-year warranty. A software update slated for September will introduce Local Mode letting the unit remain operable even if the internet connection drops, a safeguard against broadband outages.
Pricing, warranty and rollout details
For a limited period ending on Oct 6 EcoFlow offers early-bird pricing of £1 599 for the standard STREAM 5000 and £1 499 for the STREAM AC 5000 variant.
