The Omicron variant of Covid continues to spread very rapidly and the situation in the UK is becoming worrying.

The UK government is considering introducing new restrictions, based on the latest data that may show a further advance of this new variant.

New anti-Covid measures on the way

The BBC website reported the possibility of new anti-Covid measures being introduced.

Concerns about a possible new record number of infections are very strong, so the government is considering introducing new restrictions to slow down and stop the advance of the Omicron variant and the increase in infections that continues unabated.

UK: no decision yet

Dowing Street said that no decisions had yet been made on introducing further restrictive measures in the UK to control the Omicron variant. Prime Minister Boris Johnson previously said he would act after Christmas festivities if necessary. London may decide to tighten anti-Covid restrictions, following the example of other places in the UK that have already done so.
