The first step: Downloading and installing AVG software
The first step is to download the AVG virus software. Free computer security is available through Free.avg.com/ww-en/download-free-antivirus.

The download is 5.3MB in size and will download quickly to your computer. The installation is done through the following steps:

1. Click on the downloaded installed and accept the License Agreement.
2. Choose the Basic protection option for a completely free antivirus program or choose Full protection if you want to check ut the Internet Security free for 30 days.

Click on ‘Next’.
3. Choose Quick Install for the fast method of installing the PC security software. Optionally you can opt for a Custom Install for more options and installing the AVG widget for Windows 7 and Vista users.
4. Make sure to carefully review the next page as it will ask you to install the AVG Security Toolbar and set AVG Secure Search as the default search provider. Select ‘Next’ to let the installer do the rest of the work.

The AVG anti virus solution is now installed on your computer, running AVG virus protection using the basic settings.
Fine-tuning the AVG settings for optimal security
Once the security antivirus application is installed it will first run AVG update to check if your protection is up-to-date or not. Naturally you should let the program run the update in order to assure the best level of virus protection.

The very best fine-tuning you can do is to schedule certain tasks such as the AVG scan. This can be done easily through selecting Tools in the menu bar and choosing ‘Advanced Settings‘. In the left panel select the ‘plus’ symbol to select which task you want to automate through the scheduler. My advice would be to perform a ‘Scheduled Scan’ once a week, a ‘Virus Database Update’ every 2 or 3 days and a ‘Program Update Schedule’ once a day. This way you will always be up to date without you having to do the work. No longer will your computer be exposed with the installation of AVG security software!
